Weekly Drool Recipe: Cheesy Zucchini Frittata

Fresh. Easy. Quick. That’s sounds like the start of a great recipe! Today, Best Bully Sticks shares a yummy frittata recipe you can make for your dog (or yourself)! A Frittata is an Italian egg dish that is similar to a Spanish omelet. Whatever country of origin, this delectable fried, beaten egg recipe is sure to become a favorite on your pooch’s plate. This recipe also calls for yummy zucchini, which is in season and can most likely be found locally at a farmer’s market near you! Zucchini is full of beta-carotene, calcium, potassium and folates, all of which are great for your pup.

Ingredients
1 baking potato, peeled and thinly sliced
2 tablespoons milk
3 eggs, beaten
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 small zucchini, chopped
1/2 cup shredded Asiago cheese

Directions
1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

2. Place the potato in a small bowl with enough water to cover and microwave at high power until tender, about 8 minutes. Drain.

3. Add the milk and mash with a fork; let cool. Mix in the eggs.

4. In a medium, ovenproof skillet, heat the olive oil, 2 turns of the pan, over medium heat.

5. Add the zucchini and cook until tender, about 5 minutes.

6. Add the potato/egg mixture and stir to combine. Bake until set, about 10 minutes.

7. Sprinkle the cheese on top and bake until melted, about 2 minutes more. Let cool, then cut into wedges.

Recipe Note: If your dog turns his nose up at Asiago, use his favorite cheese as a replacement.

Enjoy & Bone Appétit!

How To be BBS's Featured Dog of the Day!

Calling all good looking dogs! Well, that's all of you isn't it...

We want to feature your dog! However, we've got to have more than just a photo! Here are some ways to ensure you'll be considered for Featured Dog of the Day:

Find a good quality photo of your dog (playing, sleeping, eating a bully stick). It's better if this photo is a large-format, high-resolution, non-blurry photo. No matter how adorable your pup is (and we know they are!) we won't be able to use the photo if it isn't a clear or is too small.

Add a description that includes name, age, breed and anything else you want to say about your dog or describing the photo. We only publish the photos with (at least) decent descriptions.

Send in your photo and description to callie.bestbullysticks@gmail.com

One photo will be picked everyday for our Featured Dog of the Day. We upload these photos to Instagram (bestbullysticks), Pinterest (bestbullysticks), Facebook and Google+! Make sure you follow us to see who's up for the prize! It could be your dog!

About every 2 weeks, BBS will select a Newsletter Photo Contest Winner and will appear in our newsletter and win a $25 Gift Certificate.

Good Luck! We look forward to seeing your adorable pup's photo in our inbox!

Best Bully Sticks Rescue Spotlight: Eleventh Hour Rescue

Best Bully Sticks has the opportunity to highlight a very special animal rescue who’s main goal is to save “Death Row” dogs. Eleventh Hour Rescue starts many days like this:

Our day begins with logging onto our computer, only to find we have a mere 161 emails to read before finishing our morning cup of coffee. Some of the subject titles read, “Senior Hound, last day is today,” “Overflowing with Puppies,” “13 more left, please help,” “Shy girl, and 3 legged beagle due to be gassed Tuesday.” Imagine having such a death sentence being held over your head, opening email after email, seeing the faces of fluffy, highly adoptable puppies, a scared little Shepherd curled up in the corner of a dirty kennel, a Labrador with just a blur behind him where the camera couldn't capture how fast his tail was wagging.

Sometimes, well... no, most times, our eyes are welled up with tears, and the thoughts of: Where are we going to put them?  How will we pay for the transport?  What if one is heartworm positive, how will we pay for the treatment?  This is when we take a deep breath, email our volunteers, start brainstorming about fund raising ideas, rebalance the checkbook, and just end the morning with an emailed response of 'We'll take them all', backed only with one thought...

'We'll figure it out'.

Protein Sources
Your dog does need protein to maintain a healthy diet. Learn about ways you can supplement your dog’s diet with protein sources, sometimes from unexpected sources.

Peanut Butter
If you haven’t figured it out by now, dogs love peanut butter. This creamy treat is high in protein and it’s always fun to watch your dog lick it out of the inside of a toy, off the end of his nose or right out of an empty jar!

Lean Meat
Chicken, beef and pork without visible fat, sauces or seasonings are great for your dog’s diet. Used as a training treat or food supplements, lean meats are full of B Vitamins, which provide the energy for metabolism and amino acids, which help keep your dog’s muscles healthy.

Salmon/Tuna
Fish are tasty treats for your dog that also have a lot of great health benefits. Fatty fish like Salmon and Tuna are full of Omega-3 fatty acids, which are amazing for your dog’s skin, coat and even brain functions! It’s even been suggested these fish can help with arthritis, allergies and other chronic dog ailments. When feeding fish, make sure it’s cooked. You can even pick canned tuna or salmon; just make the fish is packed in water without salt added.
