A few weeks ago, Best Bully Sticks ran a Free Bully Sticks for a Year contest in which we asked people to send in videos of their dogs chewing on a BBS product.  We had a lot of great videos flooding in yet one in particular was receiving a lot of attention. The video was simply called “Bruno loves his Best Bully Sticks.”  Bruno was immediately getting a lot of votes, so after a little research, we learned Bruno had quite an amazing story and his foster family and other volunteers from Castaway Pet Rescue were truly looking out for this special pup.

“Bruno was found in an alley in Chicago with no use of his back legs at 4 weeks old!!!

Someone brought him into CACC and he was to be put to sleep. However Castaway Pet Rescue saw this little man fell in love with his on site and knew they had to save him!"

It's easy to see that Best Bully Sticks has a dedicated following. Without them we wouldn't have had such a great turnout for our latest giveaway.  HUGE thanks to the 574 Facebook voters! But more to the point--Our winners for our $2K Animal Rescue/Shelter Winners are:

1st Place ($1000 Prize) - Puppy Rescue Mission, Celina, TX

The primary mission of Puppy Rescue Mission is to fundraise and assist various organizations which help soldiers bring their furry friends home from war. Anna Cannan, president of Puppy Rescue Mission, originally created PRM to fundraise to help rescue"THE LUCKY SEVEN" out of Afghanistan where her fiance was deployed. Due to Anna's amazing fundraising success, several of "THE LUCKY SEVEN" are now living stateside along with their respective soldiers. While PRM's primary mission is to assist soldiers and their furry friends, PRM will also, from time to time, assist an organization in rehoming a stray animal.

2nd Place ($500 Prize) - At Risk Intervention, Knoxville, TN

At Risk Intervention seems to be everywhere at once.  As the "Force Multiplier in Rescue" they are simultaneously helping many different animal rescues.  While they are on the front end of some animal rescues themselves, they raise money for chain link fencing, emergency transports and vet expenses for rescues and shelters nation-wide.

"We're the partner you need to go to the next level without interfering with your frontline and internal operations. We can provide a 501(c) umbrella for your fundraising activities as well as help with the 501(c) applications. If you're like most rescues, two of your biggest problems are transport and home visits. We can help with that, too, with a national network of experienced home visitors and (soon) low cost transportation resources." (From www.atriskintervention.org)

3rd Place ($500 Prize) - Guardian Pit Bull Rescue, Woodlands, TX

Guardian Pit Bull Rescue is an organization dedicated to saving the lives of "Pit Bulls". Our goal is to educate people by providing accurate information about this amazing and misunderstood group of breeds and find good homes for these great dogs.

"Our first priority is to educate the public about the breed and promote responsible pit bull ownership. We strive to advocate for a breed who otherwise has no voice and falls victim to breed specific legislation, discrimination and cruelty due to an undeserved reputation. We work directly with local animal shelters to rescue the breed from euthanasia and aid in rehabilitation for permanent home placement as a beloved family pet. It is our goal to dispel the myth, fight ignorance and allow the public to know this breed for their loyalty, compassion and unconditional love that truly defines them." Congrats winners! Both of your rescues will be mailed a $500 check each. Here is a little information about our bark-worthy & inspiring rescue winners. Please support their cause!

1. Born Again Pit Bull Rescue (BAPBR) was founded in 2007 by Angela Adams. They have since grown from a small independent private rescue to a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization in 2011.  They are located in Portland, Oregon and they work with the public in finding homes for Pit Bulls that have been abandoned, abused, neglected, or fallen victim to other situations in their lives. BAPBR strives to educate the public about this breeds true nature and encourages responsible ownership by offering training resource and health care advice in hopes to decrease the number of Pit Bulls that are given up each year.

BAPBR’s mission is to rescue pit bulls from local area shelters, rehabilitate, rehome(find qualified homes for these great dogs), and repair the reputation of the American Pit Bull Terrier, along with promoting responsible pit bull ownership.  BAPBR is also passionate about setting pit bulls and their owners up for success through education, awareness and advocacy.  They also combat pet overpopulation and fight unfair legislation’s.

2. Great Dog Rescue New England (GDRNE) is a 501(C)(3) non-profit, shelterless, all-breed rescue group headquartered in Massachusetts. Their group is comprised of volunteers all over New England who love dogs and want to help those that end up homeless through no fault of their own. Loyal and loving dogs turn up every day in New England and Southern shelters, as owners turn them in or they’re found roaming the streets after being dumped. To the best of our abilities, they evaluate all of our Great Dogs’ temperament and suitability for living with other dogs, cats, and children. A dog’s health is checked, and they make sure they are up-to-date on all shots and are spayed or neutered. Then, they place them in loving foster homes until they find their very own family. Their goal is to meet the needs of each dog as an individual and to assure proper placement in a loving forever home.

Great Dog is dedicated to animal rescue. In addition to their primary goal of helping homeless and abandoned dogs find loving forever homes, they:

• donate money to spay and neuter clinics in the south to help solve the problem of pet overpopulation;

• engage in community outreach activities with local schools to help educate children and young adult
  about animal rescue, responsible pet ownership, proper pet care, etc.

• adopt dogs to agencies that train dogs to assist physically disabled and hearing impaired people
  (many dogs that were abandoned are now helping people lead independent lives!).
