About Rocket Dog Rescue:

Rocket Dog Rescue, the name says it all. They are an all-volunteer nonprofit group dedicated to saving homeless and abandoned animals from euthanasia in overcrowded Bay Area shelters. They literally give them a second chance at life. And everybody deserves a second chance.

Rocket Dog Rescue places non-aggressive dogs into temporary foster homes where they are socialized, spay/neutered, vaccinated, and treated for any medical or behavioral conditions which would otherwise limit their adoptability. They then actively seek out permanent quality homes for these deserving animals through their  volunteer networkonline adoption pageweekend adoption fairs, and neighborhood poster campaigns.

Founded in 2001 by Bay Area animal activist Pali Boucher, Rocket Dog Rescue is a 501-C3 nonprofit corporation supported completely by  donations. Their all-volunteer, home-based organization guarantees that your donations are completely focused on saving dogs.

Pali - Founder of Rocket Dog Rescue

Rocket Dog Rescue’s ultimate goal is to help create a world where all companion animals have loving and permanent homes. A world where no good-natured companion animal, no matter what their age, are killed in shelters because they are considered surplus or unadoptable. They also strive to make eco-friendly and vegetarian choices whenever possible.

Make a difference in dog's life! Adopt. Foster. Give. Rock on.

Spotlight on a Rescue or Charity: We Salute the Military Working Dog Foundation

We are dedicated to spreading awareness about pet related causes such as pet adoption. So we are excited to announce our new Tuesday blog series “Spotlight on a Rescue or Charity”, to pay tribute and honor animal rescue, shelters and charities. These are our unsung heroes across America dedicated to enriching, saving and nurturing the lives of animals in need.  We hope you will champion our cause by barking the word about the importance of pet adoption and donating your time and finances to your local animal shelter or rescue. Be a voice, email us if you know of a deserving animal rescue or charity that should be spotlighted and recognized. With that said, we are proud to spotlight “Military Working Dog Foundation

About Military Working Dog Foundation:

The Military Working Dog Foundation is not a government agency, but rather a 501c3 non-profit. They have no funding or say whatsoever in what police department or other law enforcement agency receives a dog for patrol/detection duties, nor do they have any say whatsoever in who receives a dog via the U.S. Military's adoption program.

The Mission of the Military Working Dog Foundation is to assist the Department of Defense Military Working Dog Center in finding suitable homes for military working dogs that become available for adoption because they are no longer capable of performing their military duties.

Because on occasion, dogs are available for distribution to police departments and other law enforcement agencies, the Foundation's mission is also to help this process involving law enforcement K-9 units. In most cases, the dogs made available to law enforcement would make excellent working dogs, but due to time restraints, the military is unable to continue training them.

The dogs available for private adoption are not your ordinary house pets. They are anything but ordinary. They have served in protecting our country or have been to military K-9 'boot camp" and are very special animals. Their goal is to aid the MWD Center in finding appropriate homes for the working dogs available for private adoption to the public, former handlers and other persons capable of properly caring for these dogs as well as law enforcement agencies having a special requirement for a trained K-9.

When funds permit they will:

  • Provide support and protective gear to those dogs that are placed in law enforcement agencies.
  • Provide "comfort supplies" (treats, special gear, hygiene kits, etc.) to military working dogs and their handlers that are deployed in foreign countries.
  • Provide the necessary informational support services to those dogs that go to private homes

Please help them find acceptable homes and placement for these great dogs, so they can either retire in the company of a good home or continue working in police K-9 units and other law enforcement agencies.

You can help by spreading the word to people who love dogs and to your local police department. You can also aid by sending a tax-deductible donation to assist in their continued efforts.

How Can You Support Military Working Dog Foundation?

Join them in caring for our military canine heroes with a donation of support or adopt.

About Wags and Whiskers Animal Rescue:
Wags and Whiskers is dedicated to saving lives and finding forever homes for stray, abandoned and surrendered dogs in high kill shelters.  They are a small, no kill 501 (c)(3) non profit and volunteer run organization. All of their dogs listed are in foster homes waiting to be adopted and because of this, we get to know the dogs' personalities very well and use this information to match them to an appropriate home. They do not have a physical shelter, therefore they are in need of safe foster homes. This rescue is not funded by public funds nor does it receive many donations, so it is dependent on adoption fees to keep operating.

Spotlight on a Rescue or Charity: We Are Proud To Honor Animal Rescue League of Boston

We are dedicated to spreading awareness about pet related causes such as pet adoption. So we are excited to announce our new Tuesday blog series “Spotlight on a Rescue or Charity", to pay tribute and honor animal rescue, shelters and charities. With that said, we are proud to spotlight “Animal Rescue League of Boston

About Animal Rescue League of Boston:

The Animal Rescue League is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing domesticated animals and wildlife from suffering, cruelty, abandonment, and neglect. Since 1899 we have advocated the philosophy of our founder, Anna Harris Smith, that “Kindness Uplifts the World”.

Vision

The Animal Rescue League of Boston will be a leader among animal welfare organizations in providing rescue and law enforcement services and promoting a compassionate and responsible attitude towards all living beings. The Animal Rescue League of Boston envisions a day when all pets are cherished, and animals are no longer threatened with abandonment, neglect, abuse, exploitation, or extinction. The Animal Rescue League of Boston will accomplish its mission by focusing on the following objectives:

  • To be a national leader in humane rescue of animals in need;
  • To be the community leader for humane investigation and the prevention of cruelty to animals;
  • To enrich the quality of life for our region through our outreach and educational programs;
  • To maintain state of the art facilities that emphasize humane care, treatment and encourage adoption;
  • To develop and implement long-range plans that ensure the future of the organization;
  • To enlist the confidence of our donors, members, and the community at large by demonstrating effective services and sound business practices which encourage a culture of philanthropy and investment in the Animal Rescue League of Boston.

Position Statements

The Animal Rescue League of Boston believes that the power and beauty of the animal human bond is intrinsic to efforts to stop all forms of violence in our society.

A fundamental premise of the humane community is that if a child is taught to be kind to animals, there is a greater likelihood that the individual will mature into a person who respects not only humanity, but also all living things. This premise has been the subject of sociological studies and is expressed in literature and the arts. With a deep belief in this premise, Animal Rescue League of Boston founder Anna Harris Smith initiated a humane education program for children by establishing The Kindness Clubs in the neighborhoods of Boston.

Today, the League believes that it must leverage its reputation, programs, and financial resources to be part of a larger effort to stop violence in our communities and in our world. They know that animals, with their ability to give us unconditional love, can be a powerful force to bring reason, order, and a sense of truth and beauty to a world in desperate need of civilization.

Spotlight on a Rescue or Charity: We Are Proud To Honor Dogs for the Deaf

These are our unsung heroes across America dedicated to enriching, saving and nurturing the lives of animals in need.  We hope you will champion our cause by barking the word about the importance of pet adoption and donating your time and finances to your local animal shelter or rescue. Be a voice, email us if you know of a deserving animal rescue or charity that should be spotlighted and recognized. With that said, we are proud to spotlight “Dogs for the Deaf

About Dogs for the Deaf: Dogs for the Deaf (DFD) was founded in 1977 by the late Roy G. Kabat, a long-time Hollywood and circus animal trainer who raised animals for motion pictures and television shows including "Dr. Doolittle" and "Born Free." His daughter, Robin Dickson, is his successor and the CEO/President of Dogs for the Deaf.

Mission: Rescuing and professionally training dogs to assist people and enhance their lives, maintaining a lifelong commitment to all dogs we rescue and all teams we serve.

Rescuing homeless dogs and professionally training them to enhance lives is what Dogs for the Deaf is all about. In over 33 years, Dogs for the Deaf has rescued and placed over 3,000 dogs in homes as Hearing Dogs, Miracle Mutts (Special Dogs for Special People),  Harmony's Hounds (Dogs with Special Needs), and Career Change Dogs.

Programs:

HEARING DOGS: Hearing Dogs are chosen from animal shelters. Many shelters must euthanize dogs if no homes are found for them. By using shelter dogs, we are able to help alleviate some of the unwanted dog population by rescuing these dogs. Once trained, they are placed in loving homes where they provide valuable and even life saving benefits.The dogs are usually mixed breeds up to 36 months of age. The trainers look for dogs that are friendly, energetic, healthy, and confident. Each dog is individually evaluated by a Dogs for the Deaf trainer. Those passing the evaluation are brought back to our facility for a thorough medical exam, needed vaccinations, and treatment to bring them to optimum health. All dogs are micro chipped, spayed or neutered, and then begin the intensive 4 to 6 months of training.

AUTISM ASSISTANT DOGS are trained to enhance the safety of children with autism

PROGRAM ASSISTANCE DOGS go to work with and assist professionals such as physicians, teachers, counselors, and court room advocates, in the treatment of and work with their clients.

MIRACLE MUTTS (Special Dogs for Special People): Special furry friends who provide companionship, motivation, and emotional support to people who need a helping paw. These dogs help with depression and loneliness; they provide a reason to get up in the morning and motivation to exercise; and the generally make life more worth living.  Meet New Miracle Mutt Bento and new friend, Miracle Mutt Arlo. Their recipients are friends, and now, so are their Miracle Mutts - who truly are special dogs for special people!
HARMONY'S HOUNDS (Dogs with Special Needs): Dogs who have a special physical or emotional need and are looking for someone willing to provide a stable, loving home and any special care they might need with things like on-going medical concerns, old age, anxiety issues, allergies, and seizures. In the right, special environment, these dogs can thrive and provide lots of love.

CAREER CHANGE DOGS: Wonderful dogs that make loving pets and companions. Check out their adoptables!
