A few weeks ago, Best Bully Sticks ran a Free Bully Sticks for a Year contest in which we asked people to send in videos of their dogs chewing on a BBS product.  We had a lot of great videos flooding in yet one in particular was receiving a lot of attention. The video was simply called “Bruno loves his Best Bully Sticks.”  Bruno was immediately getting a lot of votes, so after a little research, we learned Bruno had quite an amazing story and his foster family and other volunteers from Castaway Pet Rescue were truly looking out for this special pup.

“Bruno was found in an alley in Chicago with no use of his back legs at 4 weeks old!!!

Someone brought him into CACC and he was to be put to sleep. However Castaway Pet Rescue saw this little man fell in love with his on site and knew they had to save him!"

Organizations that support the well-being and welfare of our favorite four-legged friends should not go unnoticed. We at Best Bully Sticks love to highlight these groups for their admirable work. One such group is the Tibetan Terrier Club of America.

The TTCA was founded in 1957 with the goal of supporting and furthering the breed of Tibetan Terriers.  Since their inception, they've grown to an extremely dedicated following with nine regional groups nation-wide.  The TTCA is a well connected group that also takes care of any rescued Tibetan Terriers.  This group is very loyal to their breed just as the breed is loyal to them. "Acquiring a TT should be thought of as more like adopting a family member than acquiring a possession."

To support their efforts, BBS has donated Plato Thinker Salmon and Chicken treats in hopes that this breed continues to thrive!

About the Breed

Sometimes called TT's, this breed isn't a terrier at all. As the TT's name suggests, this breed is native to Tibet, an isolated region in the Himalayas. These dogs were called the "Holy Dogs of Tibet."  They were viewed as good luck charms and were even given as gifts and never sold.  TT's are very sure-footed and powerful jumpers. Because of these gifts it is thought that TT's were used as herding dogs on the steep and rocky mountain sides of the Himalayas.

Tibetan Terriers make great family pets and are known for their good nature. As extremely intelligent dogs, TT's are easy to train and can be trained to do almost anything.  TT's are physically known for their long coats and shaggy appearance.  Even though their hair falls into their eyes, they have very good eyesight.

Love animals? Have a little extra time to spare? If you live in the South Florida area, consider becoming a volunteer at Glimmer of Life! They can always use a helping hand caring for the dogs, or even just playing and socializing with them.

Although they provide housing for as many dogs as they can, sometimes it just isn't enough! Become a foster parent and provide a needy dog with loving care until they find their forever home!

About DFW LRRC

The Dallas Fort Worth Labrador Retriever Rescue Club, Inc. (DFWLRRC) is dedicated to alleviating the needless death and suffering of homeless or misplaced (lost and stray) purebred Labrador Retrievers in the Dallas Fort Worth area.

They provide education about responsible dog ownership, including, but not limited to, counseling on behavior and obedience training, sterilization (spaying and neutering) and veterinary care. They seek out loving homes for these Labradors and provide quality interim care and rehabilitation through volunteer foster homes and veterinary intervention.

By rescuing and rehabilitating homeless Labradors in their community, vigorously promoting responsible dog ownership through active participation in pet-related events, and through their own education program, they strive for a better life for each of our animals.

Where do the Labs come from that are in their program?

Dogs in their program come through a variety of avenues. Some dogs come from an area shelter, humane society, picked up by a concerned citizen, or surrendered by its owner. Often, they get in surrender applications from people who can no longer care for their dogs due to health issues, military relocations or moving where dogs are not allowed. Each dog is evaluated by a DFWLRRC volunteer before it can enter into our program.

How Can You Help?

Volunteer and be a lifeline for each and every lab that comes through DFWLRRC. Look into the eyes of any of the rescues and you will see their eternal gratitude for that second chance at life...the second chance volunteers gave to them. They are so thankful a volunteer listened to that inner voice that nudged them into signing up to do that home study, showing up to that meet n greet to talk with potential adopters or opening up their home to foster that Lab in need. Yes, each and every one of their volunteers makes a difference -- no matter what the contribution. Without their volunteers they would not have been able to help nearly 500* Labs since 2004.
