I nominate Furry Friends Rescue in Fremont, CA! They are extremely active in rescuing animals out of shelters in the bay area and also doing outreach and education. They help provide information on dog training, dogs and kids, spay and neuter, and dog health! They do their best to always try and feed their fosters with holistic and healthy foods and treats, like Best Bully Stick chews!
Their twitter is @furryfriends (furryfriendsrescue.org)
September 1st, 2009 at 8:44 amI would like to nominate a fantastic rescue organization: Save Our Setters, a 501c3 that rescues many setters each year, many of whom have health issues that must be resolved before the the dogs can be released to their forever homes. A dedicated network of volunteers keeps this rescue going, helping Irish, Gordon and Irish Red and White Setters- and occasionally an English Setter if the need arises. All of their donations go directly to care for the dogs. (saveoursetters.org)
September 1st, 2009 at 8:59 amPlease nominate Green Mtn Pug Rescue for this contest. (gmpr.org) They have approx 80% of all their pugs coming in from puppymills and horrific conditions so they need lots of treats and toys:)) thanks!!
September 1st, 2009 at 9:04 amI nominate Green Mountain Pug Rescue in Lyndonville Vermont. They have always stepped up to the plate, fighting against puppymills, rescuing the dogs, and finding them their forever home. I have adopted three of my four pugs from them. Their web site is http://www.gmpr.org
Thank you for having this contest..
September 1st, 2009 at 9:26 amThe Oregon Humane Society; OregonHumane on twitter! They are a PAWSOME no-kill shelter!
September 1st, 2009 at 9:41 amI want to nominate Rescue Pets Are Wonderful, a Non-Profit foster based rescue in Anoka, MN. (RPAW.org)
September 1st, 2009 at 9:46 amRPAW does great work with many dogs deemed ‘unwanted’ or ‘evil’ and other title they do not deserve. They work with Pits, and other breeds as well. Also as seen on their website, RPAW has quite a few projects and partnerships going on for cats and dogs. The biggest being the bottle fed project where they take in kittens and puppies that otherwise would be put down in the local shelters. The biggest litter yet was a litter of 10 lab puppies!
I nominate the Mid-Atlantic Pug Rescue. http://www.midatlanticpugrescue.org/
September 1st, 2009 at 9:47 amI would like to nominate Boxer Rescue and Adoption, Inc. (http://www.va-boxerrescue.org)!!
Without Dianne’s dedication, many dogs would not be in the loving homes they enjoy today (including my boxergirl Gucci)!!
September 1st, 2009 at 9:59 amIm nominating http://huskycamp.com/
September 1st, 2009 at 11:14 amI nominate San Diego Pug Rescue (http://www.pugbutts.com) because they are so amazing! My little pug Dahlia is from there and is so well adjusted to life and healthy. We really wanted a pug and they made it possible. They are always taking pugs in, even the most struggling and unhealthy ones and making them better and comfortable.
September 1st, 2009 at 4:59 pmI nominate Eleventh Hour Rescue (http://www.ehrdogs.org). They rescue dogs at the eleventh hour from kill shelters. These dogs all deserve loving homes. Many of the dogs they rescue are special needs and tougher to adopt out and the volunteers take them in as fosters. This group of volunteers is incredibly dedicated to the care of the dogs.
September 1st, 2009 at 5:56 pmTwitter: @deathrowdogs
I would like to nominate @atxboxer for their contribution to rescuing dogs in the Austin, TX area. Not only do they save lives, but have also taken to twitter to spread the word. I feel their dogs would love these fish sticks.
September 1st, 2009 at 6:39 pmI nominate Upper Valley Humane Society, Enfield, NH.
September 1st, 2009 at 6:46 pmOh boy! Yum! You redefine bully sticks. They’re not for bullies, they’re for gorgeous canines like my golden retriever friends at Arizona Golden Retriever Connection. I am a 2005 rescue and a part-time spokesdog for AZGRC.org. In the past year, we’ve re-homed senior dogs to rescued puppy mill doggies and everything in between. Check out our awesome website at http://www.azgrc.org. Goldens aren’t among the most popular dogs in America for nothing. We are fabulous and, unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our humans’ ability to see, we sometimes need new homes. Please donate to http://www.azgrc.org. If you can’t donate, at least check out and bookmark our awesome website at http://www.azgrc.org.
September 1st, 2009 at 10:22 pmI nominate the Rhinelander Animal Shelter http://www.members.tripod.com/~adoptapet/ located in the small northwoods town of Rhinelander, WI.
I’ve been lucky enough to have adopted 2 dogs from their shelter. They’re helpful, caring and work hard! Our small town struggles economically, so the Fish Stix giveaway would be most appreciated!
September 2nd, 2009 at 5:51 amI would like to nominate Main Line Animal Rescue. They provided us with a labrador retriever about 5 months ago who was a breeding dog from a puppy mill. About a month ago, while we were on vacation, she escaped from the family she was staying with. As a rescue dog, she is scared of people, and it took us 16 days to finally get her back. Main Line Animal Rescue sent volunteers every single day to where she had been lost (about 2 hours from the rescue itself) and looked for her like she was their own family dog. Without their help, we might have never gotten her back. This rescue not only saves dogs and gives them to good homes, but they provide continuous support to their adopted dogs.
September 2nd, 2009 at 6:03 amNominating Upper Midwest Great Dane Rescue – http://thegreatdanerescue.com

September 2nd, 2009 at 10:11 amI nominate CST Reptile & Bully Breed Rescue because they work so hard at saving the breeds that every else looks down upon like Pit Bulls. They are getting very little donations and do so much out of their own pockets but still push on. They take animals from SPCA’s and other shelter’s from all over NY and other states as well to avoid them getting put to sleep, rehabilitate animals that are underweight and rehome those who just need some extra time and care to find that perfect home. They are a good rescue who cares a lot! Thx (cstrescue.com)
September 2nd, 2009 at 10:52 amI think the BEST rescue is Arizona Golden Retriever Connection! They rescued me 2 years ago from a life of doom! They rescue roughly 100 goldens a year who have been abandoned & neglected – saving most of them from euthanasia in the county shelters. Many of us need surgery and medicine to get well. While we are recuperating it’s nice to have something to chew on that is safe – instead of our stitches! Please vote us as your favorite rescue! Check us out at http://www.azgrc.org.
September 2nd, 2009 at 12:57 pmThanks,
love from those big goofy goldens!
I would like to nominate ESRA- English Springer Rescue America.
September 2nd, 2009 at 2:38 pmhttp://www.springerrescue.org
Hi! I would like to nominate the Dogue de Bordeaux Society of America Rescue for your Fish Stix contest! We have been rescuing dogues de bordeaux for over 10 years now – starting out as a small national group of big-hearted folks. When we first started we would take in a few dogues a year and in the last four years have helped to rescue, rehab and rehome over 100 dogues per year. A lot of our dogues are found in shelters, abandoned or owner surrenders. These are big dogues – the Turner and Hooch dogues – and many have special needs and require expensive medical care. Please consider our organization in your giveaway! Thank you! (ddbsarescue.org)
September 2nd, 2009 at 3:25 pmI’d like to nominate @aplacetobark. Their twitter stream speaks for them! Amazing work and dedication. Thank you!
September 2nd, 2009 at 3:27 pmI would like to nominate Northwest German Shepherd Rescue. All rescues are wonderful, but these dedicated volunteers give dogs a wonderful place to stay till they find their forever homes and they do it as fast as possible to minimize trauma to the dogs AND they are great at helping you pick the dog that is best for you AND the dog, ensuring a lot more happy endings! (northwestgermanshepherd.org)
September 2nd, 2009 at 3:29 pmI would like to nominate the Marin Humane Society. They rescued my baby off the streets many months ago, and put an inordinate amount of care and medical work into him to get him back to health. He’s no special case – they do this for all the animals they get. They care about all creatures from pocket pets to livestock. They offer refuge and rehab to about 8,000 animals a year. They have also become a “model community for enacting progressive animal legislation.” A fantastic shelter that deserves to win.
Follow them on twitter @MarinHumane or online at http://www.marinhumanesociety.org/
September 2nd, 2009 at 3:47 pmI nominate Smilin’ Pit Bull Rescue. SPBR rescues pit bulls along the east coast with the help of all volunteers. Most importantly, they’ve hundreds of dogs from euthanization, abuse and neglect.(spbr.org)
SPBR has a rigorous adoption process. The application asks many questions about their past experiences with dogs, training methods and overall attitude.
Each day SPBR works to break the stigma that comes along with pitbulls with constant education via their online forum (www.pbsmiles.com) and the use of social media.
SPBR is completely volunteer run (other then the owner) and have all their dogs in foster homes, not in a facility. 250 fish sticks will be spread across the northeast to give treats to the foster pups waiting for forever homes — adults and teens included.
September 2nd, 2009 at 4:52 pmI nominate Boston Buddies Rescue. I adopted my female Boston terrier Pixie from Boston Buddies two years ago or should I say she adopted us. She is so precious and has completed our lives. Boston buddies does

September 2nd, 2009 at 7:51 pmI am nominating PAWS (philadelphia animal welfare society). This organization works to rescue animals from the PSPCA who would otherwise be euthanized. They work tirelessly in our major homeless animal overpopulated city to find foster care and furever homes for thousands of animals each year. They are entirely dependent on volunteers and donations. In January they opened an adoption center! Yay! the adoption center has saved over 2000 lives this year alone! They have found partnerships with Penn vet hospital to help increase the spay/neuter rate, which only leads to finding homes faster! They come up with ingenious ways to raise money and all of this is managed by volunteers!! We especially have been stressed out in philadelphia since the signing of Michael Vick to our football team, the Philadelphia Eagles! PAWS has doubled their efforts since this, in trying to raise the public awareness of the huge problem that dogfighting is in our city. We need support in every way, especially in this crazy vick-sickness time to give as much positive energy and support to the animals who are still looking for homes in the shelters! giving those animals this opportunity might make their day a little better and help the volunteers at PAWS know just how much they are appreciated! http://www.phillypaws.org

They have a handful of volunteers every now and then but most of the time, they do it all themselves. There are up to 70 dogs there at any given time and they manage to find good homes for them all. They save lots of lives and are some of the best people you could want to meet! All the dogs get attention and plenty of playtime together. These two people deserve all the help they can get!

September 3rd, 2009 at 12:21 pmMy friend Jenn volunteers at Husky Camp. She was the one featured in the “Chew-monial” with her vision impaired Husky named Cash. Each person who works there has an amazing amount of knowledge about huskies and try their best to educate the public and potential adopters. Their passion has brought them laughter and tears. Ive been blessed to have become friends of these people who put their lives for the dogs who otherwise would have no second chance.

September 3rd, 2009 at 2:50 pmI would like to nominate the Animal Welfare Association in Voorhees, NJ. It is an amazing no kill shelter that has been in operation for more than 50 years. September 3rd, 2009 at 2:50 pmI would like to nominate Arizona Golden Retriever Connection. They will be celebrating their 10th year of rescuing Golden Retrievers in 2010. As a Golden that has had many foster brothers and sisters through my house, I see the amazing transformation from unwanted to the “perfect” forever Golden. As an all volunteer group I know the dedication and hours that go into helping us Goldens. Sometimes I wish my Mom was home more but I know what she is doing is helping other rescued dogs like me, get a new “leash” on life.
So please consider Arizona Golden Retriever Connection. http://www.azgrc.org

These dogs are put in foster home environments where they can get the personalized attention, care, and love that they need. Also a lot of these dogs are relinquished because they developed health problems (which most are treatable, but require money) or because they are old. Please help PRSDC help pugs!

September 4th, 2009 at 9:25 amI wholeheartedly nominate Pug Rescue of San Diego, who just provided my family with an adorable 6-year old pug. Our Ms. Puggy has suffered from cancer twice, and it was PRSD that nursed her back to health and kept her in a wonderful foster home while they searched for a permanent home. If they treat every one of their pugs with this level of care (and they do), then they deserve all the monetary support they can get!

They help provide information on dog training, dogs and kids, spay and neuter, and dog health! They do their best to always try and feed their fosters with holistic and healthy foods and treats, like Best Bully Stick chews!

September 5th, 2009 at 8:40 amOur puggle loves bully sticks and they are a great digestible treat for her. I really support your efforts in creating a quality product for pet owners.
I nominate AARF of Winston-Salem, NC (a no-kill shelter). I volunteer and foster dogs for them. They have only 1 paid, part-time employee that works a 40hr work week. 80% off AARF’s budget is dedicated to providing medical care to the animals it rescues. Their adoption stats are phenomenal too! Cat and kitten adoptions in 2008 were over 264. That same year an amazing 292 of the 302 dogs and puppies were provided loving homes. As of July 2009, AARF has adopted out 99 of the 146 dogs/puppies (including the remaining 10 from 2008), 28 cats and 75 kittens.
Through education AARF encourages community residents on the importance of viewing their pets as family members and not disposable. For instance, some families face economic hardships that force them to surrender their pets. AARF works with these families to provide solutions so the pets can remain in their owner’s care.
I know they would be truly grateful to receive such an awesome donation of your new fish stixs.

September 5th, 2009 at 9:48 amI would like to nominate Furry Friends Rescue in Fremont, CA.
They don’t rescue just one breed, they rescue every dog they can! They rescued a pregnant chihuahua mix mutt who was 2 days from being put down. I adopted her and it was a fabulous experience for our whole family! We kept one of the puppies, and Furry Friends found loving families for the other 5! These two dogs love me so much they both have to sit on my lap when I am on the toilet, ha!!

I’d like to nominate Pug Rescue of San Diego County. We have taken in more than 100 Pugs this year alone and I am sure that the Pugs in foster care would love a bully stick or two to make their stay with us just a bit easier. As an all volunteer organization, these bully sticks would save us some money, as all fosters have their medical and other expenses paid for by PRSDC during their stay with the volunteer foster parents in their homes.
I have TWO Pugs from Pug Rescue of San Diego County, and they have brought us much joy and love.
Please visit http://www.pugsandiego.com for more details, and follow us on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/pugsandiego. We’re on Facebook too!

September 5th, 2009 at 11:58 amSan Diego Pug Rescue is the most wonderful organization I’ve ever known. They care for 100′s of abandoned and neglected animals a year. They make sure that ever pug that is in their care receives the finest medical attention. They work tirelessly to ensure each pug gets a forever home. If they can’t be placed, they will find loving foster homes so that they may live out their lives with a caring family. They have taken in a record number of pugs this year and are in desperate need of donations, as many of the pugs have long term medical issues. We adopted 2 “old ladies” and they are a amazing addition to our home. http://pugbutts.com

September 6th, 2009 at 12:13 pmI am in the process of adopting a second rescue dog from them and all of the people involved in this great rescue are wonderful people who have given their lives to these beautiful well deserving dogs.
SO many of them come from puppy mills and are in horrid condition when they are rescued but with the help of Rat terrier ResQ these dogs are given a second chance at life.
I know the following people in the rat terrier ResQ who have always put these poor dogs above everything else in their lives….they are Cora, Jacki Lugg and Gina Goff.
These people have gone way beyond what they are asked of and give these dogs loving homes and these dogs turn out to be family members of their adopted families.
Please give Ratbones ResQ this wonderful reward. They deserve all the help they can get.
Thank you for doing this for all the rescue groups in the US.
Dogs make us all live longer and make our lives so much richer.
Rat Terrier Rescue deserves this. Thank you so much. Christi Sloma-Carroll from NY.
