Thanks to the generous donations of Best Bully Stick customers $750 was raised last month and Best Bully Stick matched dollar for dollar for a grand total of $1500 to be given away to 3 lucky animal shelter & rescues ($500 each).
How to Nominate a Rescue or Shelter
Do you have a favorite dog & animal rescue or shelter? Well we want to know about them & reward them. Please leave a comment below nominating your favorite animal shelter/ rescue (Nomination week runs: 7/26/10 – 8/1/10) . Once all the nominations are in then we will have final voting where the top 10 rescue/shelters with the most nominations will be entered for the opportunity to win $500 for their rescue or shelter. You will then be able to vote on the top 10 nominated rescues & shelters for a period of one week (Final Voting week runs: 8/2/10 – 8/4/10) and at the end of the week the 3 rescues or shelters with the most votes will win $500 each. We will also give 2 runner ups not selected for the $500 prize 100 6″ thin bully sticks toward their rescue & shelter.

July 26th, 2010 at 1:17 pmDiamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas runs like a well oiled machine! Organized in 1998, and run by Christine McEntrye, this rescue saves hundreds of dachshunds each year. Along with directing DDRTX, Christine regularly assists with urgent rescues at puppymills, breeder seizures or in the event of natural disasters. Also, two former rescue dogs – Mandy May and Rainbow -act as spokesdogs for rescue and against puppymills – spreading the message far and wide on FB and at local events. In fact, Rainbow recently won a contest sponsored by Bissell and her image will appear soon on the Bissell Hot Bot machine. I can personally attest to the fact that this is a wonderful, supportive, involved group that could be a shining example for any other rescue!

July 26th, 2010 at 2:00 pmIn Mississippi The Clarksdale Animal shelter is a no kill shelter that was recently on the national news because it was in unlivable conditions but some people came and changed it and made it much better but,it is still always on the verge of over population and they never seem to get enough dontations to properly care for these animals. The town of Clarksdale has the worst amount of stray animals maybe in this whole country.We need as much help as possible!! I hope that they are chosen for your donations!

I am a very acive volunteer there, and the organization could really use the $ to help accomplish its mission. It’s no kill shelter that really goes above and beyond – currently we have a litter of puppies were are caring for who came down with the Parvo virus
. Four are currently hospitalized and we are really hoping for the best for them. The remaining 7 are being cared for in isolation at our shelter. This giveway would really help offset the costs of their care!

They have recently renovated their facilities due to the increased need for housing animals. In 2008 alone, they took in 19,000 animals. This year they have also taken in many dogs/puppies from puppy mills.
The ARL-Iowa also conducts numerous educational and outreach programs, as well as many community events for fundraising purposes.
The ARL-Iowa is an organization that does it right when it comes to the health and well-being of animals.

July 26th, 2010 at 6:22 pmI wanted to nominate Husky Camp, Siberian Husky Rescue for the dog shelter/rescue giveaway. I volunteer my time every weekend for Husky Camp and think they are such an amazing organization that I have been volunteering for over a year now. The husband and wife team that runs the rescue really go above and beyond for these dogs and literally put all the money they have into helping these dogs. They believe that these rescue dogs should be cared for as if they were family and only feed them top quality dog foods and get them any care they may need while in rescue. Every weekend the adoptable dogs are loaded onto a bus (literally) and brought to the adoption event, where we try and match the available dogs with forever homes and new families.

I have been a volunteer for 4 yrs and I can’t tell you how hard all the volunteers work to take in unwanted, abused and lost goldens, find them a forever home and then transport them wherever they need to go anywhere in the state. We have rescued over 100 goldens just this year and over 2,800 goldens in the last 11 years. Our vet bills are high and we depend on donations so that we can care for these dogs no matter what their health issue is. Check out our website golden-retriever.org for more information.

Not only does this wonderful all-volunteer group do everything possible to make sure these cairns (cute little toto babies) are adopted out to the best home they can find for them — and that’s after giving ALL the vet care needed to make sure they are in the best health they can be, no matter the cost — but this group is there for you after the adoption. They have post adoption volunteers to answer any question the adoptive home might have after adoption. And I say this from an experience like not many have had with this group, thank goodness. This group was with me after my adoption of the “perfect” little cairn girl for me, but they stayed and remained with me for almost 60 days after my girl escaped into the woods out of fear of humans the day after I adopted her. I don’t just mean they stayed with me through e-mails or phone calls. I mean, I had volunteers from this group traveling over thousands of miles to help actually look and trek through the woods of North Georgia to find this one little girl. They spent countless hours of their time and their volunteers’ money to find this one girl. I have my heart with me today because of this wonderful organization. What they did for my one little girl is just very minor for what they do for so many other cairns. They have their heart and soul in this. I know there are many other rescue groups out there that do wonderful work, and I think they are wonderful too. I just don’t think there is another group out there like the volunteers at Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network. They walk the walk and talk the talk and when you are around them, you can hear their hearts beat from their soul. They are the real deal and live and breathe taking care of these cairns in need.

As an active volunteer and Foster Parent for this organization, I can not say enough positive things about how much this young rescue has accomplished in just two short years. In 2 years, we have saved 500 dogs. That’s 500 Rat Terrier/Rat Terrier Mixes that would have been euthanized had we not stepped in and given these dogs a “New Rattitude!” We have several dogs in our Canine Clinic that could really use the extra funds that would be raised by this contest. The biggest impact we make is on the dogs, but we also try to make inroads with our adopters by educating them about overpopulation, heart worm disease, positive training, safety, health, and other issues involved with keeping a pet. We fully disclose the history of our rescues (if we know it) and sometimes that means a particular family finds they are not a good match for a certain dog. We help them find a great match–not just a good one. This makes me very proud of our work because I want the dogs to find permanent, stable placements. Due to our commitment to education and support of new adopters, we rarely have a dog returned–but we are always willing to take them back.

They rescue puppy mill dogs, stray dogs and take in surrenders that have serious medical problems. The Toy Fox Terrier Rescue works with all these dogs getting them socialized and acceptable for permanent furever homes.

July 31st, 2010 at 10:08 amI would like to nominate the Toy Fox Terrier Rescue, Inc. This is a great organization that rescues from kill shelters, strays, surrendered and puppy mill dogs. There are several volunteers from transporting these little guys to fostering. This is a great breed and several of our foster homes have gone on to adopt these little dogs. The rescue does not hesitate to take on dogs with serious health and behavior problems. The volunteers work with these dogs socializing them and getting them ready for a loving home. The funds would go a long way to help this organization.

July 31st, 2010 at 3:26 pmI’d like to nominate the Berkeley-East Bay Humane Society, a private non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing from local municipal shelters and providing low/no cost spay/neuter to the community. They suffered a horrible fire back in May and lost their entire adoption area, along with 15 beautiful cats that perished from smoke inhalation. Their entire facilitiy is shut down and will need to be repaired. The BEBHS is currently fundraising to rebuild. Please support their lifesaving efforts. Thank you.

They had a devastating fire in May, which destroy their Cat Adoption Area, Shelter Laundry, Grooming & Kitchen & several Admintration Offices and an apartment. 15 beautiful cats/kittens also died in the fire and another 10 cats & 14 dogs suffered various degrees of smoke inhalation & all had to seek emergency treatment. The whole building, including the hospital has been closed ever since. Make shift efforts are continuing for the animals that were up for or were to be up for adoption (approximately 80). Any source of donations, grants, fundraising, etc is always great for BEBHS!!!
