How to Nominate a Rescue or Shelter
Do you have a favorite dog & animal rescue or shelter? Well we want to know about them & reward them. Leave your nomination on the bottom of this blog in the comments and become a fan of our facebook page. (Nomination week runs: 3/25/11 – 3/29/11 12pm EST) . Once all the nominations are in then we will have final voting where the top 10 rescue/shelters with the most nominations will be entered for the opportunity to win $500 for their rescue or shelter. You will then be able to vote on the top 10 nominated rescues & shelters for a period of 3 days (Final Voting week runs: 3/30/11 – 4/1/11 12pm EST) and at the end of the 3 days the 3 rescues or shelters with the most votes will win $500 each. The 3 winners will be announced on Monday 4/4/11

I would like to nominate FAAS – Friends of Attleboro Animal Shelter – for the incredible work they do! They are a small group of dedicated people with huge hearts! They not only give dogs and cats a second chance, they reach out to their neighbors when help is needed for missing pets, advice, etc. They will stop at nothing to insure the best is provided for the dogs and cats lucky enough to find their way to the Attleboro Animal Shelter. The ACOs are THE BEST and the volunteers give above and beyond. The shelter is small, the staff is small, but there is no expiration date on the dogs and cats living at the shelter. <3 RIP Tyson

I nominate Col Potter Cairn Terrier Rescue. We rescue cairns in need from puppymills, shelters, and owner surrenders. We give all dogs the medical treatment they need no matter what the cost. We are 100% volunteer. All funds go to the rescue, medical treatment, and finding a home for each dog we rescue. All dogs are put in a loving foster home until they find their forever home. We rescue over 400 dogs a year and all dogs remain in a foster home until they are adopted. We average 400 dogs a year that are placed in loving forever homes.
I nominate BORN AGAIN PIT BULL RESCUE of Sherwood, OR!!!!!!!!! Although she primarily focuses on the maligned pittie population, Angela (the lone woman behind the scenes), always does her best to help out any pup in need! She is truly an amazing woman with a HUGE HEART. I’ve fostered and worked with several rescue groups but hers is still the most efficient at networking, rescuing and finding forever homes for the many dogs she is able to support! How she works her regular job to support this passion (usually paying out of her own pocket for special extras) and still manages to stay balanced is beyond me, but she most certainly is deserving of the recognition and praise that this prize would give!

I adopted my rescue cairn, Cammie, from them last year.It is an all volunteer organization and all monies go into directly into rescuing cairns-whether for spay/neuter, updating vaccines, needed dentals, etc-they fix what is ‘broken’as much as possible before the dogs go to their forever homes. Great care is placed in picking the right home for fosters-from reference checks,verifying vet care given for curr. pets in the prospective adopive home, to home visits. The group is involved in all areas of rescue from transports, to shelter pulls, owner surrenders, fostering, public education, fund raiser events-all is done by passionate volunteers.

As a volunteer transport driver I work with a number of rescues but few take in dogs with such grievous medical conditions, invest the money, time and love to nurse them back to health while in foster care and spent an equal amount of time and effort ensuring their forever homes provide a happily ever after. It provides unparalleled matchmaking between homes looking for a Cairn Terrier with its Cairns looking for homes and then continues to provides post-adoption support to ensure the dog and its new family never want for assistance in dealing with behavioral, medical, nutrition or training problems. It’s a national rescue with volunteers all over the United States participating in the rescue of Cairn Terriers from puppy mills, shelters, and from owners who can no longer care for their dogs. Every dollar donated goes straight to the dogs and every penny makes a difference in saving a Cairn Terrier’s life or health.
