How to Nominate a Rescue or Shelter
Do you have a favorite dog & animal rescue or shelter? Well we want to know about them & reward them. Leave your nomination on the bottom of this blog in the comments and become a fan of our facebook page. (Nomination week runs: 12/8/10 – 12/11/10) . Once all the nominations are in then we will have final voting where the top 10 rescue/shelters with the most nominations will be entered for the opportunity to win $1000 for their rescue or shelter. You will then be able to vote on the top 10 nominated rescues & shelters for a period of 3 days (Final Voting week runs: 12/12/10 – 12/14/10) and at the end of the 3 days the 3 rescues or shelters with the most votes will win $1000 each.

I would like to nominate the Animal Welfare League. They are located in Chicago Ridge, IL. They are Chicagoland’s Largest Humane Society. They take in a high number of stray pets. It’s always sad for me to go their and see the many dogs in the back that need a home… but regardless, they are a large organization and do a very good job. I adopted my Beagle from there… and he is the sweetest thing in the world. I would like to see them win because I know they would be in great need for additional resources as they have alot of strays.

This rescue takes in Catahoula-type dogs and gives them shelter and vetting and lots of kindness until they find their homes. Though she works full time, Gloria devotes all of her free time making life better for so many animals. The rescue brings dogs up from all over the southern United States and finds the right homes for the special personalities and energy levels of this breed. Cathoula Rescue Ontario has a phenomenal monthly placement rate and Gloria personally supports her local pound too, contributing food and walking and feeding frequently to give them more days to find a home.

Our homeless doggies like bully sticks but they have to wait until they are donated. The dogs waiting for homes with the Grayson County Humane Society are thankful for all donations of beds, toys, treats and wonderful chews and bullysticks. I would like to nominate Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas. This amazing group is run by a phenomenal woman, Christine McEntyre, who works a full time job (in addition to also serving as a first responder to hoarding/puppymill situations)
Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas is an all volunteer group in the heart of Texas that is dedicated to the health, welfare and happiness of our dachshund friends. We are based in Kerrville, Texas but service all of San Antonio and the surrounding areas. Our volunteers come from San Antonio, Kerrville, and other parts of Central Texas. We are a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization. As such, we must rely heavily on donations and contributions, which are a necessity in order to continue to be able to pay the costs of health care, administrative needs, and other necessary expenses for each of our dachshunds.
Diamond Dachshund has rescued, rehabilitated and placed approximately one hundred dachshunds each year since our incorporation in 1998. That’s a lot of happy, healthy dogs and equally happy families! We strive to find the right home for each dog’s individual personality and needs, so that the placement is permanent and both the dogs and the humans who adopt them, are equally happy.
I would like to nominate K9 SafeHaven for all their hard work @ saving dogs from the streets of Houston, Tx as well as saving them from death row @ the local kill shelters.
K9 saves dogs regardless of breed and without charging adoptors. K9 works strictly off of donations and is only concerned with finding the BEST homes for the doggies they save.
Applicants are fully investigated and the best one gets the doggie with hopes that they will take the “fees” they might have been charged and go buy great food and toys and comfy beds for the baby they adopted.

Liberty Humane Society in Jersey City, NJ is a hard working shelter in an urban setting. They are high volume, and in a low income area, and have been working hard to increase their save rates! In the past several months since new leadership has joined, the adoption rates are up AND the rate at which animals are getting out to rescue is up. The number of sick animals is down, and things in general are really improving. Finances are always a problem for shelters, and LHS could really use this money to save more animals!
Eleventh hour Rescue in Rockaway, NJ…they are no kill and focus on saving dogs on death row. they take from many local kill shelters in NJ and NY as well as working with out of state shelters and rescues. They do not discriminate because of breed, age or health and they work tirelessly to find their rescued dogs and cats the right home. They have taken dogs that others have turned their backs on and have learned that sometimes these animals who have been mislabeled as unadoptable in a shelter environment end up being the most amazing cratures when given the chance

I would like to nominate my adopted animal shelter, Grayson County Humane Society/SPCA in Leitchfield, KY for this generous gift from Best Bully Sticks. The Grayson volunteers receive no government funding and are dependent entirely on donations to feed, and look after all the animals in this open-admission shelter, and in spite of this have saved thousands of animals by transporting them all over the northern and northeastern U.S. Grayson is very deserving of such a gift and it will be used wisely and well.

I would like to nominate Grayson County Humane Society in Leitchfield, KY. This small rural shelter is run by volunteers and receives no public funds. They rely entirely on donations and fundraising. Grayson has been called “the little shelter that could”, as they strive to be an open admission no kill shelter. The volunteers love each and every animal that comes through the door, provide needed veterinary care regardless of cost and work tirelessly to find the perfect home for each one. They are a shining example of what an animal shelter should be.

Grayson County Humane Society is comprised of four volunteer women working under the MOST stressful and difficult conditions in the middle of KY while working full-time jobs and fostering many animals in their homes. They treat the sick, mend the injured, and love them all. I worry about these ladies and worry about what would happen if not for them.
