Spot Light on a Breed: Boxer

Weight - Male: 60-70 lbs, Female 53-65 lbs
Height - Male 22-25 inches, Female 21-24 inches
Coat - smooth, short haired coat, average shedder
Color - fawn, black, white, brindle

Appearance
The Boxer's body is compact and powerful and the shiny, close-fitting coat comes in fawn, brindle, white and various shades of red, with white markings. They have a boxy head and their tail is usually docked. Ear cropping is optional (Docking and cropping is illegal in some countries, we aren't big fans of it).

Temperment
Boxers are a bright, energetic and playful breed and tend to be very good with children. They are active dogs and require adequate exercise to prevent boredom-associated behaviors such as chewing or digging. Boxers have earned a slight reputation of being "headstrong," which can be related to inappropriate obedience training.

Health
Some major concerns are cardiomyopathy and other heart problems, sub-aortic stenosis, and thyroid problems. Boxers are also prone to cancer and skin allergies.  Sometimes prone to epilepsy and hip dysplasia. From age eight on they are more likely to get tumors than other breeds.  These dogs may drool and snore. May have excessive flatulence. Some white Boxers are prone to deafness.

Best Bully Sticks Introduces Salmon Paws Dog Treats

We are excited to bring pups out there a new line of all natural Salmon treats and chews.  These treats and chews are made from 100% Wild Caught Alaskan Sockeye Salmon.  They are produced in the U.S.A and have all kinds of benefits for our pooches.

The difference between these treats and many of the other fish dog treats on the market (and why they are slightly more expensive), is that they are made from wild caught salmon and not from farm raised salmon.   In addition, Salmon Paws are made from only the center cut from the Sockeye Salmon, so the treats do not contain bones and other by-products that many other treats contain.  Farm raised salmon typically does not have the nutritional content of wild caught salmon and has a higher fat content and oily nature (which can cause a loose stool).

Many dog treat companies heat their fish dog treats at extremely high temperatures to melt the bones, fillers, etc. which can be found in less expensive cuts of the fish.  Salmon Paws contain no bones, fillers, etc.; and are slow cooked at a low temperature to preserve the quality of the product.  This high heat can produce ash in the product which has also been found to be unhealthy for pups!

There are lots of great health benefits associated with salmon!  In addition to containing high levels of protein, vitamins, and minerals, salmon is an excellent source of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids.  These omega acids have been shown to fight cancer, bone and joint disease, as well as contributing to healthy skin, shiny coat, healthy joints, and a healthy heart.

Best Bully Sticks Sponsored Dog Montana Does it Again and Again and Again....

Wow is all we can say..  Eric, Karman, and Montana are unstoppable.  What started out as a hobby has turned into an addiction for Eric and Karman.  We are not too surprised with their knack for training champions.  With several more months under Montana'a belt and several more events, she continues to prove that she is a champion.  Now on to the specifics....

At the DockDogs event in Indianapolis, IN, Eric and Montana placed 1st place in the Junior Big Air Division and qualified for the amateur Big Air finals by placing 7th.  This dynamic duo also tried a new event called Speed Retrieve and earned second place in the division (pretty good for a first timer).  And wait... that is not it.... on top of all of that, Karman and Montana earned their senior jumping title this weekend!

This past weekend, again in Indianapolis, Eric and Montana earned their senior jumping title.  At the same event, Karman and Montana qualified for the Amateur finals and placed 5th overall.  I'm not sure how they can keep track of all of these awards.  In addition to all of this, Montana has been featured on several news shows showing her stuff.   Please join us in congratulating Montana on all of her success!
