We’ve had English Spaniels for as long as I can remember, and they’re such a beautiful breed of dog. Incredibly loyal, as long as they get a belly scratch once in a while!
Are you sure the weight is right for field and bench bred dogs? It is my understanding that field bred dogs weigh more and are built a litlle sturdier with shorter coats, sometimes roughcoats, and bench bred dogs are more lithe with long silky coats. Either way, we love Springers! They are the best breed to own and a lot of fun to hang with! They are so loyal with such an easy to please temperment.
Hi, Joanne!
In our limited research we read that working Springers are lighter in body. We’ll definitely look into this a little further and see if we need to correct our blog! Thanks for pointing this out. English Springers are such a wonderful breed!
Springers, no matter the line (field or bench) run around the same weight from my experience. Males typically run closer to 45-50 lbs and females are around 40-45. Although my first Springer female was around 47 lbs. Field springers tend to be more of a hunting field, closer to that of a German Shorthair or maybe a Weimaraner? Bench Springers tend to be more compact or husky. After growing up with Springers, there was no doubt in my mind which breed my husband and I should get as our "baby." Our half field springer male sleeps between us and sleeps in with us on the weekends. He is truly our baby!
