Introducing Olewo Carrots And Red Beets: All Natural Pet Supplements

No other company makes all natural pet food supplements like Olewo GmbH in Germany. Olewo grows special carrots and red beets expressly for producing food supplements for pets. The highest quality standards are applied and no shortcuts are taken. Strict and rigorous quality controls have been developed every step of the way, from growing and harvesting to production and storage to create unique and highly effective all natural supplements containing valuable vitamins and nutrients.

Germany is the country with the longest tradition in organic farming and marketing of health products. Therefore, it is not surprising that in the 1970’s when Olewo started producing the first carrot chips for pet food supplements, natural pet foods were not common in the United States.

All Olewo carrots and red beets are planted on farms specifically dedicated to Olewo pet supplements. Crops are situated in the flat terrain of Northern Germany known for its extremely fertile soil. Dedicated crops assure that Olewo vegetables are free from toxic pesticides and herbicides. All carrots and red beets grown to produce Olewo supplements are tested and exceed farming standards required for vegetables produced for human consumption.

Two crops are planted each year, and daily harvesting of carrots and red beets takes place from July through February of the following year. Throughout growing and harvesting, the vegetables are strictly monitored to determine when carotene and nutrients are at their highest levels. The vegetables are picked and moved to production immediately after harvesting to assure none of the valuable carotene and vitamins are lost.

We always love getting emails from our customers & readers asking us to feature their dog or favorite breed for our Best Bully Sticks Spotlight on a Breed blog series every Thursday. As always we are honored to oblige. We are excited to spotlight the Irish Water Spaniel.

Height: Male: 22-24; Female: 21-23 inches

Weight: Male: 55-65; Female: 45-58 lbs

Coat: The most distinguishing characteristic of the Irish Water Spaniel is the coat. The majority of the body is covered with tight ringlets of hair. The tail, face, and ends of the rear legs have smooth short hair. The coat is crisp in texture and solid brown in color. The curly outer coat is lined with a dense under coat that serves as insulation from frigid water. To cover and protect the eyes a top-knot of curls hangs down from the head. This breed sheds little to no hair.

Color: Solid Liver, described as deep reddish brown. There are no white markings, except for those due to graying from age.

Temperament: A breed of ancient lineage, the Irish Water Spaniel is an active, energetic, and willing companion. They are strongly built and have rugged endurance. A true sporting dog, they are bold, alert, and inquisitive. Irish Water Spaniels are often referred to as the clown of the Spaniel family.

Irish Water Spaniels are highly intelligent, confident, and devoted. They demand attention and are a "whole family" dog. This is a breed that truly enjoys human contact. They are best suited for families with older considerate children. If properly introduced, they will get along well with other pets. They are generally quiet and bark only when necessary. The Irish Water Spaniel is protective, reserved, and wary with strangers. However, they are not aggressive. This breed displays a joyous exuberance and zest for life.

Health: The average life span of the Irish Water Spaniel is 10 to 12 years. The Irish Water Spaniel has a few Health concerns that it's owner should be aware of and keep a keen eye out for. The most common of these would be Ear infections as this is common in many swimming dog breeds with longer ears and the Irish Water Spaniel is no exception. Ear infections often occur as a result of the water that does not drain from the ears properly and can pool inside causing an infection. Drying your Irish Water Spaniel's ears throughly after swims may help to prevent some Ear infections, but any sensitivity around the ears should immediately be checked by a veterinarian.

Other Health Problems to be aware of with this breed is Hypothyroidism, seizures, eye Entropion which can all be inherited and you should inquire about any health concerns with the parents of your puppy before adopting or buying him or her. Because the Irish Water Spaniel is a larger breed of dog hip dysplasia is also a common health condition for the dog as it ages and can be uncomfortable for the dog, proper nutrition and health check ups can help to prevent some hip dysplasia.

Often times our toughest food critic is our dogs, but this is one recipe even the most finicky dog can't resist. Your pup will be happy to devour these wholesome, moist and delicious mini mutt cups made with pureed pumpkin and cream cheese. That's right! You don't have to wait until October to enjoy pumpkin's. Humans like an occasional sweet treat, and our dogs are no different. This Pumpkin Cheese Cup recipe is sure to satisfy your dog's sweet tooth. Leaving him barking "Where have you been all my life?" Hey, you might like them too, but be sure to leave enough for your canine pal. Enough with the small talk already, lets roll up our sleeves and get baking!

Ingredients

Yield: About 24 mini-mutt cups and 24 garnish cookies

For the Cups
2 1/2 cups (310 g) whole wheat flour
1/2 cup (40 g) whole rolled oats
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 cup (240 ml) water
1/2 cup (130 g) all-natural crunchy peanut butter

For the Filling
1/2 cup (100 g) puréed pumpkin
16 ounces (450 g) cream cheese, softened to room temperature

Preparation

For the Cups
Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
Combine wheat flour and oats in a large bowl. Add egg, water and peanut butter and mix well.
On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough and roll out to 1/8" (0.3 cm) thickness.
Cut out twenty-four 2" (5 cm) circles. Use remaining dough to cut out 24 small garnish cookies (Here’s an idea: Cut the cookies into your dog’s favorite shapes.)
Spray a mini-muffin pan with oil and lightly dust with flour. Lay circles in the mini-muffin cups and press.
Bake 30 minutes or until golden brown. Cool enough to handle, remove from pan, then let cool completely.
Store in sealed container until ready to fill with cheese mixture.

For the Filling
With a hand mixer, mix pumpkin and cream cheese together until well blended.
Place cream cheese mixture into a pastry bag with a large-tip opening; you can also use a plastic sandwich bag—snip corner of sandwich baggie to create a 1/2" (1.3 cm) opening.
Gently squeeze filling into cookie cups. Garnish with a small cookie.

Humans and dogs can both suffer from with celiac disease, a genetic small intestinal autoimmune disorder. Those who are diagnosed with celiac disease have an intolerance to gluten, a protein present in wheat, barley and rye. Gluten allergy can cause damage to the small intestines and prevent food from being properly absorbed by the body. Do keep in mind that pets do not have to be diagnosed with celiac disease to suffer from grain-sensitivity. Since dog's are unable to communicate whether or not they are feeling well it is important to be able to recognize signs and symptoms of celiac disease and gluten sensitivities.

Symptoms of gluten sensitivity include:
Chronic Gastro-Intestinal Upset (diarrhea, constipation, and vomiting)
Chronic Dermatitis (flaky skin, hair loss, redness, bumps, rashes)
Chronic Ear Infections (dark, smelly waxy debris in the ears caused by yeast overgrowth, shaking and scratching head)

What grains contain gluten?

Rye

Check the labels on your dog's food for wheat or grain products. You may have to change what you are feeding your dog. Dogs with celiac disease can usually tolerate corn, rice, gluten-free wheat, dairy foods and poultry.
