This week, Best Bully Sticks brings you a no-fuss recipe: 1-Ingredient Sweet Potato Treats. These yummy, healthy and easy dog snacks come from Sharon at Perfect Parties.com. Sharon began whipping up dog treats because when she adopted her Cane Corso, Avalanche's Cinizia Juniper Belle, or Cinzia for short.  

When Cinzia became the newest member of our family, I began baking treats for her. I love baking homemade dog treats because I know exactly what ingredients are going into Cinzia’s treats.  I can add the flavors she enjoys and since they are homemade, the ingredients are fresh and preservative free. One of her favorite snacks is the Sweet Potato Treats.

Here is Sharon & Cinzia’s 1-Ingredient Sweet Potato Treats recipe!

Ingredients
3 Large Sweet Potatoes: washed and dried about the same shape/size works best

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees

2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

3. Cut your sweet potato in half lengthwise.

4. Place flat side of halved potato onto your cutting board and slice into 1/3 inch lengthwise pieces. Do not cut thinner than 1/4 inch.

5. Place them on the prepared baking sheet.

6. Bake for 3 hours turning over halfway through.

7. Cool completely on a wire rack. 

Storage
Keep refrigerated up to two weeks. Store the additional in the freezer up to 4 months.

Let’s be honest. Most of us might have good taste, but most of us don’t have extensive “design” knowledge. That’s okay though, Best Bully Sticks knows you love your dog and they love you, who cares if you don’t know what the Bauhaus is. That’s where Kelly Beall comes in.

Kelly, design aficionado and author of Design Crush, is also a dog-lover and she showed us that good design and good dog treats really have more in common than you might think.  With a recipe that’s simple, easy to “operate” yet very enjoyable, Kelly has merged the dog treat and design worlds. These Peanut Butter & Pumpkin Dog Treats were made for her pups Piper and Bebe and they look pretty satisfied don’t they? (photos below!)

Peanut Butter & Pumpkin Dog Treats via Design Crush

Ingredients
• 2 1/2 C whole wheat flour
• 2 eggs
• 3/4 C pumpkin puree
• 3 Tbsp all-natural peanut butter

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

2. Place all ingredients in the mixing bowl of a stand mixer, use your paddle attachment. Mix on low for about a minute or until the dough starts to come together. It won’t be one big ball yet, but a bunch of smaller ones.

3. Turn out dough onto a lightly floured surface. Work it together into a large ball, then roll it out to about 1/4″ thickness. You can use a cookie cutter for shapes or a knife to cut strips. (I used a 1″ 2-sided biscuit cutter.) Roll out the scraps again and again until there’s not enough dough left to work with.

4. Place the treats on a baking sheet lightly coated with cooking spray. They don’t expand, so 1/2″ between treats is enough.

5. Bake 30 minutes. Let cool completely. Makes 75+ 1″ treats.

Labor Day is just around the corner, which signals the end of the summer season. Best Bully Sticks doesn’t want to say, “So Long Sweet Summer” just yet, so we’ve found a great dog-friendly party food for your Labor Day shin-dig. Erica from For the Love of Pooch blog shared her Pigs In A Blanket recipe with us and we think you’ll have as much fun making these adorable treats as Fido will have eating them.  We know Mochi, Erica’s terrier-mix, did!

Ingredients
1 C. whole wheat flour (regular or white)
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp honey
2 tbsp olive oil
1/4 C. grated cheddar cheese
1/3 C. water
2.5 oz jar of Gerber Graduates Lil' Sticks Meat (7 pieces)

Recipe Note: Gerber Graduate Lil’ Sticks Meat Sticks are fine for dogs, however you can also use organic hot dogs, veggie hot dogs or any other all-natural hot dog your dog likes. Read more

Pooches on Parade, a new Best Bully Sticks Photo Contest, celebrates dogs and the adorable qualities that make them special!  August 26^th was National Dog Day, but BBS is taking a whole week to celebrate the dogs in our lives. Enter your dog under one of these categories: Best Dog Ears, Best Dog Eyes, Best Dog Expression, Best Tail Wag. After all photos are in BBS will also choose a 5^th winner for the Best Overall Pooch award from all photos.

Make sure you read rules & regulation before participating!

Individual Category Winners (x4) will receive:

Overall Winner will receive:

$150 Gift Certificate & dog’s photo used in a special FB Cover Graphic that will appear on our website for a week. (excluding other promotional graphics)

How It Works

1. Find a photo of your dog that fits into one of these categories. The categories are: Best Dog Ears, Best Dog Eyes, Best Dog Expression and Best Tail Wag.

2. Upload this photo to the OfferPop app on Best Bully Sticks Facebook Page in the category that suits your dog’s photo the best.

3. Each dog can only be entered into one category apiece. One submission per person.

4. Best Bully Sticks will judge each photos in each category based on relevance to category and quality of photo. A panel of Best Bully Sticks employees will also have input on these photos chosen in each category and in the Best Overall Pooch choice from all categories.

Contest begins Monday, August 27^th & ends Monday, September 3^rd at Midnight. Entries must fit one of the categories of Best Dog Ears, Best Dog Eyes, Best Dog Expression, or Best Tail Wag.

This will contest will be judged by Best Bully Sticks and winners will not be determined by votes. The criteria for judging will be based on the quality, composure, and best fit for each category. We will also be choosing a general excellence category out of all entries called, “Best Overall Pooch.”

Upon entering the contest, each entrant is releasing their information for use to Best Bully Sticks and is held responsible to Best Bully Sticks contest Rules & Regulations. When submitting a photo for this contest, you are releasing Best Bully Sticks and it’s affiliates to repurpose or reproduce the photo.

We do not condone cheating. Any suspicious activity will be monitored by contest managers. If we in the least are suspect of any person, we will remove the entry. We reserve the right to remove any derogatory comments. No purchase necessary to win. You must meet the requirements of the contest to be eligible. History & Background: Originally created to be a “toy” bulldog derived from English Bulldogs, the French Bulldog’s breeding was brought about by lace makers in Nottingham, England.  The lace workers carried these miniature bulldogs to France with them when the Industrial Revolution displaced many English workers. These bulldogs quickly became popular in Paris and the English began sending the bulldogs considered too small or with faults such as standing ears to France. Soon the “Bouledogue Francais” was named as a breed and few miniature bulldog breeds remained in England. The English were none too happy about the name, but nevertheless, it stuck.

In 1885, French Bulldogs were brought to America and high-society ladies immediately took to the breed. In 1906, the French Bulldog was the 5^th most popular breed in the U.S. The Rockefellers even owned a French Bulldog. While plenty of French Bulldogs have won “Best in Breed” none have even won “Best in Show” at Crufts or Westminster. This dog has had a continued and dedicated following through out the years. Famous Frenchie owners include Martha Stewart, David and Victoria Beckham, Hugh Jackman, and Jeremy Renner. Frenchies have even made silver and small screen appearances in movies like Due Date and TV shows like Modern Family.
