Weekly Drool Recipe: Cool As A Cucumber Gazpacho

Since the heat and humidity has ramped up recently, Best Bully Sticks has been sharing lots of great “Beat The Heat” recipes on Wednesday’s Weekly Drool Recipe blog. This week we wanted to still give our readers a recipe to chill out to, but as a main dish, not a treat. Hearty & cool, Rachael Ray’s “Cool-as-a-Cucumber Gazpacho” is guaranteed to please! (“Please give me more,” that is!)

Ingredients

1 cucumber, peeled and seeded
1 small tomato, seeded and coarsely chopped
1/2 bell pepper, seeded and coarsely chopped
2 tablespoons coarsely chopped fresh parsley
Salt and pepper (for people portions)

 

 

Directions

1. Using a blender or food processor, pulse all of the ingredients together.

2. Thin with 1/2 cup to 1 cup water as desired.

3. For people portions, season with salt and pepper.

Recipe Notes:
Makes 6 servings.

Best Bully Sticks Weekly Drool Recipe: Honey Carrot Treats

If you’re a seasonal shopper you know that the freshest fruits and berries are showing up at a farmer’s market near you. However, Best Bully Sticks wants to hang on to those last few ground root veggies that are fixing to pass out of season! Lettuce, potatoes, radishes, onions and best of all: carrots! Carrots are a wonderful source of vitamins and minerals not only for you, but for your dog. Carrots are chock-full of beta-carotene, which is transferred into Vitamin A once consumed. Vitamin A supports health vision, skin, hair, bone development and can even be a cancer preventative.

Here’s a great recipe to treat your dog to some yummy and healthy carrots! The carrots paired with tasty chicken, honey and parsley, you're dog is sure to drool over this one! Thanks to Doggy Dessert Chef for another great recipe contribution!  

Ingredients
1 Chicken breast, cooked and chopped

2 Carrots, grated

2 tablespoons Honey

1 teaspoon dried Parsley

1 cup Whole Wheat Flour

1/4 cup Water

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

3. In a large bowl mix all ingredients one at a time, kneading well after each addition.

4. Once dough is well mixed roll dough into 1/2 inch balls and place dough balls 2 inches apart onto the prepared baking sheet. Press down on the tops with a fork to flatten.

4. Bake for 15 minutes, or until browned at the edges. Cool and refrigerate.

Yield: 3 to 4 dozen rounds

BBS Weekly Drool Recipe: Springtime Muffins For Dogs

Every time you bake up delectable dishes, you can usually expect your dog will want a little too. Best Bully Sticks thinks it's time to indulge them! We're not suggesting giving your dog your human meals,but Best Bully Sticks figures it's time to turns the tables. Today we're giving you a muffin recipe for you dog that you might be begging for by the time you’re done! These easy muffins are perfect for a Spring Saturday morning and most of the ingredients you probably already have on hand.  Just imagine a breeze coming through an open window on a sunny spring morning while your pup and you enjoy baking time together!


Ingredients

1 egg
2 tablespoons honey
2 bananas, mashed with a fork
1/4 cup peanut butter
3 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Cooking spray

Directions

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees .

2. In a bowl, whisk together the egg, honey, bananas and peanut butter. Stir in 3 cups water; whisk until smooth.

3. In a separate bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder and cinnamon; add to the egg mixture.

4. Spray two 12-cup muffin pans with cooking spray; fill each cup three quarters full. Bake until browned, about 30 minutes. Let cool.

Recipe Note:
You can also use a mini muffin pan for bite-sized treats. Bake these for about 20 minutes.

Weekly Drool Recipe: Lemon-Lavender Biscuits

It’s spring and that means the occasional thunderstorm.  A good spring rain can refresh the earth and feed your newly planted veggies and flowers.  But, Best Bully Sticks knows that sometimes our pups don’t like the loud booming of thunder. An anxious dog tugs at our heart stings and as proud pooch parents, we want to help calm our dog’s nerves.

That’s why this week we’re bringing you a special treat from our friends at Doggy Dessert Chef! These Lemon-Lavender Biscuits are made with culinary lavender found easily on the Internet or your local spice shop.  Lavender has a calming effect by way of a dog's olfactory system (nose) and has been proven to be a natural way to calm a dog through thunderstorms and separation anxiety.

Ingredients

1 Lemon (juiced and zested)

1 tablespoon Culinary Lavender

2 cups Whole Wheat Flour

1/2 cup Milk
