Weekly Drool Recipe: Pumpkin Please Pupsicles

Pumpkin pie is a staple of the Fall and Holiday season. And BestBullySticks.com knows no matter how cool it may get, ice cream goes great with pumpkin pie! Because we know that you love your dog, we found a recipe from Kirby the Dorkie that lets you include your four-legged family member! These quick and yummy treats are like mixing the pumpkin pie with the ice cream! Whip up these Pumpkin Please Pupsicles for your pooch this Fall!

Ingredients:
1 - 15 oz can pure pumpkin purée**
Same amount of vanilla yogurt
2 tsp ground cinnamon

Directions:
1. Pour pumpkin into a large bowl.

2. Fill empty can with vanilla yogurt and add to the bowl.

3. Add cinnamon.

4. Mix well.

**Don't use pumpkin pie filling which is full of ingredients dogs don't need.

Recipe Notes: If using plain yogurt add 1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract.

It's that easy! This way has a little twang to it from the yogurt which is ok since Kirby likes yogurt but make sure your dog does. For a frozen treat you have several choices: use your ice cream maker, freeze and stir in thirty minute intervals until it has a creamy consistency, or spoon into molds or little plastic cups, cover with saran wrap and freeze.

Thanks to Debby & Kirby at Kirby the Dorkie for sharing their great recipe and photos!

Weekly Drool Recipe: 1-Ingredient Sweet Potato Treats

This week, Best Bully Sticks brings you a no-fuss recipe: 1-Ingredient Sweet Potato Treats. These yummy, healthy and easy dog snacks come from Sharon at Perfect Parties.com. Sharon began whipping up dog treats because when she adopted her Cane Corso, Avalanche's Cinizia Juniper Belle, or Cinzia for short.

When Cinzia became the newest member of our family, I began baking treats for her. I love baking homemade dog treats because I know exactly what ingredients are going into Cinzia’s treats.  I can add the flavors she enjoys and since they are homemade, the ingredients are fresh and preservative free. One of her favorite snacks is the Sweet Potato Treats.

Here is Sharon & Cinzia’s 1-Ingredient Sweet Potato Treats recipe!

Ingredients
3 Large Sweet Potatoes: washed and dried about the same shape/size works best

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees

2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

3. Cut your sweet potato in half lengthwise.

4. Place flat side of halved potato onto your cutting board and slice into 1/3 inch lengthwise pieces. Do not cut thinner than 1/4 inch.

5. Place them on the prepared baking sheet.

6. Bake for 3 hours turning over halfway through.

7. Cool completely on a wire rack.

Storage
Keep refrigerated up to two weeks. Store the additional in the freezer up to 4 months.

Weekly Drool Recipe: Peanut Butter & Pumpkin Dog Treats from Design Crush

Let’s be honest. Most of us might have good taste, but most of us don’t have extensive “design” knowledge. That’s okay though, Best Bully Sticks knows you love your dog and they love you, who cares if you don’t know what the Bauhaus is. That’s where Kelly Beall comes in.

Kelly, design aficionado and author of Design Crush, is also a dog-lover and she showed us that good design and good dog treats really have more in common than you might think.  With a recipe that’s simple, easy to “operate” yet very enjoyable, Kelly has merged the dog treat and design worlds. These Peanut Butter & Pumpkin Dog Treats were made for her pups Piper and Bebe and they look pretty satisfied don’t they? (photos below!)

Peanut Butter & Pumpkin Dog Treats via Design Crush

Ingredients
• 2 1/2 C whole wheat flour
• 2 eggs
• 3/4 C pumpkin puree
• 3 Tbsp all-natural peanut butter

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

2. Place all ingredients in the mixing bowl of a stand mixer, use your paddle attachment. Mix on low for about a minute or until the dough starts to come together. It won’t be one big ball yet, but a bunch of smaller ones.

3. Turn out dough onto a lightly floured surface. Work it together into a large ball, then roll it out to about 1/4″ thickness. You can use a cookie cutter for shapes or a knife to cut strips. (I used a 1″ 2-sided biscuit cutter.) Roll out the scraps again and again until there’s not enough dough left to work with.

4. Place the treats on a baking sheet lightly coated with cooking spray. They don’t expand, so 1/2″ between treats is enough.

5. Bake 30 minutes. Let cool completely. Makes 75+ 1″ treats.

A BIG thanks to Design Crush (aka Kelly) for sharing this great treat recipe with Best Bully Sticks! Check out all of BBS's Weekly Drool Recipes for great ideas on special treats for your pup! If you didn’t catch it, we’re using Pumpkin in this recipe! Can anyone smell Fall just around the corner? Stay tuned for Fall recipes coming soon!

Enjoy & Bone Appétit!

Weekly Drool Recipe: Tuko’s Cookies, A Guest Blog from Shelly West’s Vegetarian Ventures

Last week, Best Bully Sticks stumbled upon a great treat recipe from a vegetarian blogger, Shelly West. Shelly is the proud Boxer mom of Tuko, who just turned 6 months old not too long ago and in honor of her boy growing up, she decided to make him a simple but yummy ½-year old treat: Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits. With only 4 ingredients, these little dog cookies are the epitome of easy and all-natural.

After seeing Shelly’s great blog and the adorable Tuko, BBS just had to feature this recipe!  Here is Vegetarian Venture’s (a.k.a Shelly’s) original post.

"Although we have only had Tuko (also sometimes referred to as Taco, Teekee, and Tofu) for 4 months, I can hardly remember not having the little guy around. He is always right there whimpering for attention, sleeping in my lap, licking my face, or begging to go outside. Although he was a real handful at first, he has already mellowed greatly since the bewildered puppy that first arrived at our door step from the farm-like upbringing he was born into.

Although this is a bit late, he turned 6 months last week and I felt like we had to celebrate his excelled maturity in some way….so I made him some dog biscuits! I thought about cutting them out with cookie cutters and finding a frosting recipe but he was whimpering for me to play with him the whole time I was making these things. Needless to say, I figured my attention to him was more important than making his next snack look pretty."

Ingredients

2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup oats
1/3 cup all natural peanut butter
1 cup warm water

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. Mix all dry ingredients together. Add in the peanut butter and slowly add in the warm water while mixing together.

3. Roll out into 1 inch balls and place on a greased cookie sheet. Cook for 25 to 30 minutes. Remove from oven and let sit for an hour to firm up.

4. Feed to your puppy as a reward, for a snack, or just to see the excited tail wag!
